Another what is the file extension for javascript
to launch the site you need space on a webserver obviusly :) Using a free service is easiest.
You could probably find software and install to make your computer a server, there's a few free options out there. If you plan on making use of mySQL (or other database) and php, its a bit of work to get it running. So if you are a computer newbee I suggest looking for a free service, maybe your ISP has this for you to use.
javascript files have the extension js
AFAIK js does not need JRE on the clientside, all browsers can parse it w/o JRE.

Anna you not necessarily have to get a free webserver you can host it by yourself
except webserver are faster than some of us:)
