components (only 1 pc running):

windows 2k
dynex dx-e101 ethernet card
linksys rt41p2 router with 2 phone ports
linksys befcmu10 broadband router
broadvoice voip
ptokax v.3.2.6
dc++  v.306

problem:
i am new to networking. i have been running a hub without fault without a router. i decided to get broadvoice voip which required the use of a router and ethernet card. although i can get on the internet i can no longer get my hub to connet with the router/ethernet setup. when i try to connect with "ipconfig" it tells me:
"Windows 2000 IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

        Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . : .com
        IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.15.2
        Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
        Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.15.1
"

with telnet i get this:
"C:\>telnet 192.165.15.2
Connecting To 192.165.15.2...Could not open a connection to host on port 23 : Co
nnect failed
"

and this:
"C:\>telnet 192.168.15.1
Connecting To 192.168.15.1...Could not open a connection to host on port 23 : Co
nnect failed
"

my isp has assigned me the ip# Your IP is 12.223.60.44
when i try to forward ports in the linksys setup page with ip#192.168.15.1 or 192.168.15.2 i get errors.
i cannot get any voip phone signal either.
in "my local area connection"  under "internet protocol"
it is set to "obtain ip address automaticallY".
i only have 1 network dialup connection.

so...what do i have to do to get this all to work?

hey kuei,

i cant say how to help exactly because hardware changes from country to country but...

- Ensure a firewall isnt blocking your port
- Ensure that the router is forwarding your ports correctly

this could mean forwarding the port and then also allowing it in firewall rules of your router.

- Otherwise make sure u can connect to own server on dc++ with ur network address

hope it helps

kuei

country is usa.
no firewall is being used

If your router has snmp protocall then get Getif it will tell you EVERYTHING you need to know about it!

yo kuei,

you should be able to access your router via http://192.168.0.1/

Try forwarding ports to your local ip (remember u cant access your own remote host name! u have to connect via ur local ip address to any of your own services)

Ensure that the ROUTERS firewall rules are allowing the ports u need!

If u cant get shit going, look for enable dmz client and put in ur local ip address. BEWARE: this will forward all incomming internet traffic to the selected ip address and is a hugh risk for microsoft computers!

neways...these questions cant be answer directly as i tried to point out before cause its hard to find someone with the same router from the same country as urself.

if u dont know what ur doing read the manual for the router about forwarding\redirecting ports and if u cant figure it out from there may god help u :P

AlwaysConnected

go to
http://192.168.15.1

login as admin

most login = like this

admin as login
admin as pasw

if you can't login leave login name emptye
and only fill in the pass  admin

forware it like this

http://members.lycos.co.uk/alwaysconnected/linksys.jpg

where you see 192.168.1.100 or 192.168.1.101
you must enter 192.168.15.2

good luck

kuei

thank much for the visual aid. it really helped. both my hubs are up and running. now i need to get the voip phone running.
here is what broadvoice sent me but i have no clue where to enter this info:

Although BroadVoice does not offer support for generic SIP devices,
we are happy to extend our calling plans to you on a self-serve
basis.  Following you will find the generic SIP settings you'll need
to configure your device:

primary_dns_ip: 147.135.0.6
secondary_dns_ip: 147.135.8.6
proxy_ip: proxy.broadvoice.com
proxy_port: 5060
registrar_ip: sip.broadvoice.com
registrar_port: 5060
phone_number: *****

auth_password: *****
tftp_ip: config.broadvoice.com
