Why ? u need a very very fast pc for it atleast much mem and  very high line to get 15k users.  I think dc hubs in windows are a bit hogs with bw and not so good with these amounts of users. There are some verli hubs with 10k and more and they are sometimes very laggy too so i dont think that its good for px to try handle that amount. Who want to be on hub what is slow, it may crahs often and has search time limits. Im more happy in 1-2k users hubs were are no search time limits. Anyway just my thoughts :D

I wouldn't mind seeing the max users cap disappear. I do however also agree with that fact that very large hubs do not make very nice hubs to be in imho. The more users, the more data needs to be send thus the more chance on lag.
On the other hand, this is a choice hubowners can make for themselves, but will need the cap to be removed

I agree with the point of PPK. He raises limit only when he makes sure PtokaX can run a hub with no limitations (kicking passive users or 120 sec search timeout or chat blocking LOLOL) or shortcomings (lags/frequent disconnects).
I'd rather welcome a search timeout limit.

just as an example:

Aquila on windows can hold around 3'000 to 5'000 users on linux however it can hold more then 13'000 now that shows difference in capabilities now doesnt it ;) stopped me wondering why the biggest hubs run *nix based hubs

Does it compile natively under windows?

i have a server with bandwith 100mb unmetered now use verlihub max user 14500 ( search on hub is setting to 30 sec)

if PPk increase this best soft i changed from verlihub to ptokax :D

Perhaps changing to a Just-In-Time compiler of Lua would allow the increase? http://luajit.luaforge.net/luajit_performance.html

Do you really have 14500 users? Can we get the address?

I think the quetion is quite simple: PtokaX is an Hubsoft. The option of accept more or less users is an hubowner problem. PtokaX shouldn't interfeer on that (just give his power on any computer).

It's like: it's you who decide how many sec an user must wait between 2 searchs. Why should PtokaX define a mim of 5 minutes? It's you decision to have more or less bw. ;)

Best regards,

When you host a hub, you are SERVIN both in IT and real-life context. If you want to save bandwidth with restricting search frequency, then all the usercount thing is just a vPenis, nothing more. You run a hub to allow users to search and download and chat, obviously with some restrictions, don't you?
Chat-only is also an option, but that's a differenft kind of animal.

bastya_elvtars: you don't really understood my point of view; if there are no limits of handling users (NMDC doesn't talk about it, I think..), then PtokaX shouldn't preserv that barrier.
It you have a 2gbps/2gbps bw and a very good server, why should they be limited?

In the other hand, a good argument could be: windows can crash more easily when handling +8000 connections. In that case, it's better for the own hub.

If you want a fast server or a piece of sh*t running on your bw, it's your decision. Attentive users will choose the best of them. ;)

We agree in this, and I was not reacting to this part. :-)

Lastly, so few Px users have both enough machine and bandwidth to handle
such a large amount of users. So rather than creating misconceptions about
the hubsoft's performance, certain hub features should be restricted by those
who do know better, [ie the developer]. You are always free however, to write
your own software and make whatever decisions about it that you wish.
Yes, you are right. So, why don't create a "warning message", when owner tries to allow more then 8000 users? I mean.. I don't see any strong reason to don't allow it. A software should run with 1, 1000, 10 000 or even 100 000 connections. It's just a different amount of processing work.

Regards,

PS.: I cannot run more than 350 users (so, my opinion is free of any personal demand). :)
