Yeah

Try limiting you downloads speed for the person running the hub - or even unsharing to see if it improves

Im not sure if this helps, but is the max no of users set by the hub settings make any impact whatso-ever? or is it only any use when you try to get more users connecting than the settings allow?

probby being attacked =)

note: inbuilt firewall in all xp editions can cause comp crashes when serving, and often causes comp freezes heh =)

1 more thing 300 users in 10meg connection is nowt, so scripts wont do nowt to affect the lag =)

I dont know a lot about this problems, but i do know i got the same problems. What i did was first to handle my SWAP files. Dont use swap files to your harddrive but to Ram. Dont use msn and IE (Internet Explorer) After this i still got the problems, but not to many as before. I do hope this help you and many others with the same problems.

swap has to be set on hdd, comp uses memory anyways, but if u run out of memory, as windows dont always clear it in time b4 its all used, ur comp gonna have big crash......altho running hub and uses hdd for swap still gonna crash ya out lol

i got 2 questions, that doesn't realy concern this problem but what you said erlier...

why block >0.307 and why inbuilt firewall in xp???
Title:
Post by: MrZ on 19 April, 2004, 12:58:52
Hia and tnx all for ur intrest in our problem.

The hub is on a dedicated PC, so we dont use IE or MSN on that, we also use a mem cleaner prog for garbage colletion.

The Swap file can be set to 0, but its unlikely the problem.. as the hub has been running fine all the time b4 this happends, some weeks ago... and just now the users is starting to get about fed upp,,

The dc versions over 0.307 is blocked because we dont whant to make it to easy for everyone to have evryone elses IP... I know this can be discussed a lot, but this is a decision the hubowner had made, and i can understand it ;)

Why he use the firewal,, hrmm i realy dont know (cant ask him now, im at work) but i guess it for the hubs protection..

use a real firewall and if you have installed xp service pack 1 try 2 uninstall it.
if that sounds 2 scary 2 ya, just delete the swap file on shutdown (local securey policy).
if that helps you got a glitch according 2 M$ (huge f*ck up in my eyes).

plop sorry my bad english...i dont realy understand..

1. get a real firewal
2. delete the swap file on shutdown
OR uninstall sp 1 or 2

is this what u meant ?? and if this helps it is Bill's fault all thing (hehe). Have i got it right ?

one of ur scrip is now running in there
Bot="deflood"

What are ur opinion about that

The problem is fixed :)))

I found from another ooold forum (2003) that there had been som problems with the port 411 on that isp.. I had that idea somehow in my backhead, but,,, yea ya know...

So we set up a temp-hub exactly the same (same address everything) and changed the original one with a diff port..closed down the org and both up again...
and the problem/lag was all gone..

All here tnx a LOT 4 ur help & support

(edited some spelling errors ;)

any names of those isp ??
i know some finish isp limit those ports, but on those it's simply solved by running dc over ports 22/23/112.
had some1 on a universety lan who had about the same but was a bit harder 2 bypase, using port 8080 helped on him but was needed on the other side.

This is very strange, i'v got BBB and haven't noticed any problem yet...

seems like it is just for some ppl.. but it does indeed look like it is time to intruduce adc, with no standard ports...

maby it differs per acount type ?
ngt for example has the option 2 get a static ip on some accounts, if they don't there ip is shared with other users (isp side router).
