Skrollster

a quick calculation on a hub with:
1000 users
20 new users connecing/ min
20 users changing there my info string each min

estimating the myinfo string to be about 90byte per user (this is an average calculated from 114000 users collected over a couple of days)

40 users sending my info string to the hub/ min = 40*90*1000 bytes/min = 3600000bytes/min = 3,4mbytes/min = 27,46mbit/min = 0,458mbit/s

this is just for sending the $myinfo string..

correct me if i have missed somethining in my calculation or if i have estimated something totaly wrong..

but if i haven't this is bandwith wasting

Skrollster

after studdying a hub with 1000 users for a while i realized that my estimation with 20users/min is totaly wrong.. it's more like 70users/min..

and maybe less users that change myinfo tag...

that would give about 75 myinfo sendings / min.. => 0.76mbit/s

and i guess @ a hub with 2000+ users the joins is more then the duble amount.. but i calculated with 150 myinfos/min and a hub with 2000 users:

150*90*2000 bytes/min = 3,4mbit/s

that is waste.. pure waste

ptaczek

It is :) Now try to imagine what a waste it is on the CZ-PRO with 5000 users online ;)
Because of that the solution offered by me, Opera and Sedulus (and probably a few other now) is about to convert the waste into usefull traffic.
As soon as the latest ptokax will be tuned and stable I will try to implement the scheme and "split" the core for two kind of clients. PPK and probably Opera could try to make an experimental DC++ client and the funny part may begin.

Can you try to include a third client Ptacek?, DC:PRO exactly, i use this one a lot, is unstable and some features are not implemnted yet and others not full implemented but i use it a lot, since multisource download is available and works in many releases. I'm going to talk with the developer to take a look into this thread for him try to make the client compatible.

I forgot something, if Opera is going to make a new client, when the first link becomes available, i wanna test it if the link is posted in somewhere here in the board.
