I just wonder which one of these you people like the most, Peerguardian or Protowall?

protowall uses a lot less resources and blocks a lot faster due 2 the fact it works as a driver on the network card.

hmm, is it really so good? Because after seeing all those sticky threads in the tech section of the protowall forum, I get abit uncertain if it really is good. Like it doesn't block to 100% and it can slow downa and make your internet connection unstable etc etc

I never bought into the two party system.

http://thewall.sourceforge.net/

Put the required resource where they belong. On a monitor less 486 running from flash ;-)

I don't see any practical use with picoBSD, why run a OS that can only do firewall, NAT and FTP functions?? And how should the peerguardians IP blocklist be used in picoBSD? If you can somehow get to use the peerguardian IP blocklist with picoBSD, then you need another computer that would act only as a firewall/NAT if picoBSD should come to any pratical use. If I'm wrong NotRabidWombat, the please correct me.

I guess I don't understand the advanced use of firewall or IP blocking services on a Windows personal computer (or even a Windows server for that matter).

The purpose of running theWall is to specialize in a task. theWall is a firewall, and it does it's job VERY well. So now all the worrying about blocking IPs, checking packets, and rerouting traffic is taken away from your server (and all of your other computers on your LAN).

You could get the peerguardian list to work with theWall. It would just require a small shell script to create an access file from the plain text deny file.

It's not like you'll need a top of the line computer to run theWall. You could get away with a much older computer with minimal resources. Try your local school, they typically give their old computers away, with harddrives unformatted. DOH!

But this isn't for everyone. I'm just putting the other choice out in the air.
