Title: Hub Managment thru LocalNetwork
Post by: BoJlk on 16 December, 2004, 15:59:47
Greetings.
I've recently upgraded my hub to the Main server in my Network and enabled internet sharing, when connected with the DC thru the network onto my Hub on the server.
I know i need to setup the DC into Passive mode.
but the DCDM client that i use is checking with the RAW command the connection and downloading file lists to check for ADSL search for forbiden files shared.
I'ts not working because the filslist won't download, from passive users (as far as i know i can't as long as i'm passive too)

all i ask is: are those settings correct or i need to configure something esle?

passive can't download from passive,

So you need too forward one of the outside port to your inside computer , so you can be connected as active user.

So i forward the Hub's port or the DC's ports?

*edit can it be done with the Default Windows Firewall

tnx...(please expand your explanations)

Well i've made the following settings:
in the DC i designated a static port and in the port-mapper (on the server) i've made forword the port to the DC's PC address...
And it doesn't work, any other suggestions?

download analogx portmapper and map the desired ports on the server PC to the other.

 what i want to do is insted a of having the server in my  main comp. i  want it to be on the other one with the lan ip . can someone helP

Qs

+ how would this effect the main comp if possible to be done
 +will users still get better access as if the server was in main comp
 +can i still have active mode
 +Anthing else i need to know?

hi

ive tried  many a way to get active   through local network using I-Net connection sharing.

port mapping will allow you to get ppls lists but i can get it to show anything in search..

also  i found  it reports  every user as having the internal ip of the computer ...

maby im just thick  but i havnt managed tru active yet..

I can administer through network.

What I did was set up each pc with a fixed ip on the lan

I then set up udp and tcp ports for both computers on the router.

I then edited the hosts file under system32/drivers (on xp machine) to tell the pc how to get to the server.

Oh and i set up a no-ip address for the pc to be able to be active on the //www.

Sorry I cant explain it very well

I now can connect in active mode

Some how that worked.

I will try to explain it a better way soon

Isp/Phone line -----> Usb Modem -----> Server ------> 10/100 24 port Switch-----> rest of computers.

Hub running on server with internet connection sharing enabled..

client on one of the other computers.

but im no Network expert so maby there is a way.

Why do you share the internet connection that way?

Isp/Phone line -----> Usb Modem -----> Server ------> 10/100 24 port Switch-----> rest of computers

why not like

Isp/Phone line -----> Usb Modem ------> 10/100 24 port Switch -----> Server \ rest of computers

I guess you dont have a switch with that ability.

Can you tell me what equipment you have on the network.

May be a good idea to look at getting a multiple port modem/router Thingo
