Hi,

i've been browsing the forum for a long time and i haven't found the answer to the simplest question of all. What's the purpose of the bots OpChat and PtokaX that come with a freshly installed PtokaX hub software? I can see that the name OpChat suggests that it allows for the communication of Ops through a chat room but, why is it there if ops can chat through main chat, without the need for a bot like that? I'm sure i'm missing something important here and that's why i write this.

The purpose of these two bots is what i don't understand. One other thing: is their behaviour customizable through a graphical interface? i've read that these bots and scripts for hubs in general are written in lua but i don't have the slightest clue about how to write/modify one?

I'm sorry if these questions seem silly to you. I've tried to present them the best i can.

Greetings,

roblov.

QuoteMost owners and users agree that a message from
the hub should come from a name reflective of that
hub. So the hub bot serves in that capacity.

Is that what the bot does when you choose the option "Send public message"? I have that option in the hub bot's context menu but not in my user's context menu (i'm an op.)

QuoteIt may also serve as an alias of the Hub Security functions.

How are the security functions applied?

QuoteThe OpChat is different in that it is a private message
chat room available to those profiles with the 'allow for
OpChat' bit enabled in the profile manager. Often times
owners and operators of a hub may desire to speak in
private not in main about certain issues and hub policies.
You may not find a need for it, but the greater majority
of users do. If you like you could also enable all profiles
to use the OpChat, perhaps with a name for the chat
in line with this usage. Now all registered users could
chat in pm without unregistered user being party to the
conversation.

Got it.

QuoteThe parameters of these two bots are settable in
either the PtokaX GUI or through the LUA API (script).

I'm a complete newbie at lua scripting. Is there a beginner's guide to lua that i can read in order to be able to understand (and possibly tailor to my needs) a specific script?

Mutor,

thanks for your time and help,

greetings,

roblov.
