Title: Best Ethernet Card?
Post by: BlazeXxX on 01 February, 2004, 09:26:01
Hi Guys,
Can someone recommend me a Good Ethernet Card in PCI for Windows 2003 server?

I am looking for a 100Mbit or a Gigabit card. Its for the hub, so should be able to handle more than 1000 users. The line is good, only my Ethernet sucks.

Gimme ur thoughts on this.  ?(

Hi Vidframe,
I am already having Intel Pro / 1000 MT Adaptor but its resetting users up cuz of bad settings i think. I am also having a Intel Pro / 100 S Adaptor on my other server. Both not doing the same due to those extra settings.

Any best config u know of for these cards?

i vote 3com 905c or better.
didn't had any problems with them so far even when making over 5000 connections 2 it on 1 port.

Thx plop :)) You always there wen i need help  :o)

How long you been using this card for and was there any resets due to this card? The line is ofcourse a reason for resetting, but if we have a better line.. wud it be able to handle 1000-2000 users on a 100Mbit line?

If anyone knows any other NICs thats used by large hubs, please let me know..

help me 2 remind 2morrow 2 ask a friend.
he's totaly crazy for a intel serie, they use them in nearly every server his boss sells.

my 1st network card was a 3com 905c, still have it and nothing but good about it.
it's a bit hard for me 2 test long periods but i remember running a special program which build new connections endlessly (and reconnects if disconnected) for nearly an hour without causing any problem.
the program causes a lot of bad network cards 2 crash the tcp/ip stack.
the worsed so far was realtek, 250-300 and it's dead (810 serries driver it can take a bit more).

Intel card is best for Business and other purpose.. but i think it sucks wen u use it for the Hub purpose with those extra settings. Maybe we can experiment the both cards on my two servers using ur tool.

Let me know if u want to test on 3com 905c and Intel Pro/ 1000 MT cards ;)

The 3com 905c worked a bit better than intel for me, but still having same problem of resettings. I think the driver doesn't support Windows 2003 or some sort. On their main page, it only shows upto Windows 2000 / Pro. Since u also having windows 2000, i suspect thats why the performance is not great as we expected.
