oke folks

perhaps this could be an idear to do

make a section were we can post the websites where we can download all the scripts we want so that the users can decide wich they want to use.

a kind of backup section in case the forum goes down [what i dont hope]

i think this is the best place to be to get scripts and answers to scripts and hope it stays forever but a backup isnt such a bad idear i think.

make it something like backup script hubs or something similair.

What about this one from Optimus.
Think this is what you are looking for

http://ptokaxscriptsection.no-ip.org/

Maybe it's more handy to concentrate scripts on one place, and use a mirror website.

How annoying is that Lycos ad? Doesn't anyone host their own site anymore?

One more thing, I know that DL engine has become quite popular, but what kind of dl engine does not have a search? PHP rules, but I think that script is weak.
Just my 'all to honest' opinion'.

i own my own website :D

links in my sig

yours

i do. lol
ok the public site isn't hosted on my private server, but the CMS and master site are definatly on 1 of my own servers.

php doesn't rule anymore, lhtml took over that place.
i can rebuild my site faster then this board can generate 1 page, and thats without using sql (servers are about the same specs/os).
just my hoster doesn't support lhtml. snif snif

@ Mutor: use a real browser like firefox with the adblock extension, your gone love it.

plop,

"i can rebuild my site faster then this board can generate 1 page, and thats without using sql (servers are about the same specs/os)."

That's not a very fair comparison. Database requests are what take the most time. This forum also contains a lot more data.

php is still a major player in HTML generation. It's the first thing I think of. Seems to me that lua is just another flavor of the same style of language. The real lhtml (LISP Html) would be interesting to see in use.

Why don't you do a comparison for us? :-)
php, lua, lisp (as apache modules I would assume)

Regarding the ads, I use privoxy. You can choose to use it on your personal box or it can be a seperate proxy server.

i know it's not really fair but.
Page generated in 2.056 seconds. 0.584 Seconds were used for 29 MySQL Queries.
0.3984375 to write 61 pages  + 62x a (ls > listing.txt)

i'm using the lua 4.1_2 commandline for bsd for this.
in the past i was using the lua4 version for windows, on my p4 2k1 it took 12-14 seconds.
when i switched 2 apache/mod_lua4 it took 3-4 seconds on a p3 733.
then i switched 2 bsd, same script took only 0.1-0.2.
now i extended the script so it only rewrites the changed pages (the specs from above are from fully generating from scratch).
i'm using a flat file (like on the ptokax scripts) 2 check if pages need 2 be rewriten.
the biggest difference here comes from the fact that a bsd shell is a hell of a lot faster then windows.

haven't yet managed 2 compile the mod_lua on the bsd rig, but just like you i'm eager 2 know what speed that would give.
haven't seen the LISP version yet, but definatly gone check it out.
when i got them all running i'm sure gone compair the results from all of them.

if your not hosting yourself, php is the best choise.
have 2 find the 1st hoster who serves lua.

Hrm, I typically see:

Page generated in 4.18 seconds. 3.83 Seconds were used for 29 MySQL Queries
Page generated in 0.956 seconds. 0.598 Seconds were used for 23 MySQL Queries.
Page generated in 1.205 seconds. 0.552 Seconds were used for 21 MySQL Queries.

Even if you did see your example, I bet these php scripts are doing ALOT of work. Not too mention there are probably many users hitting the site at once.
