I read a lot about people using p4 3.0ghz processers with a billion Gb's of Ram thoughout this forum. But i want to know who is running the slowest/oldest just to prove it can be done!
P.s im running a 450mhz 256mb ram (hub with 100+ users and dcdm) and it doesnt bother it one bit!

Average uptime: 9-10 days, but it could probably stay up longer, I just like to restart it now and again 8)

PII-400Mhz/256 SDRAM (PC133)/40GB W.D
MY connection is the crapiest there is: 750/96 ADSL
So that's my main problem ;(

Well a slow connection doesn't help, but at least the PC won't crap out because of "not enough available resources". Slow PC on a slow connection is fine as long as you don't have too many users and/or scripts.
The max I ever hosted in 2 years' time was 120 users, so I don't really need Big Blue :D
Maximum for my connection is around 185 users.
It's heavy!
Usually around 170~180 online and ia takes a big load from my connection. :(
The PC can take it.
I host my hub on a P2 266@300 with 256mb ram running w2k.
Current uptime on pc is 38 days 7hrs would have been more but lost power in a big storm, the longest uptime the pc has had is 52 days I only rebooted that time to install the sasser patches.
The pc has never crashed, I run it in a corner with no monitor, it runs mysql, apache, Dnet, and two ptokax hubs.
One hub is only a backup hub and is ipfiltered and redirects users that are not on the ip allow list to my other hub, for some reason users seem to try to connect to the default port even tho my hub is running on the 412 port and the one on the 411 port is private and not on the hublist.
The longest uptime on the hub was 25 days and was only shut down when I made a mistake and quit the wrong hub :S. So far now it's been only running for 12 days, as I changed some scripts and bot names and had my net go offline for a bit so took the hub down when there was no one in it.
Currently there is 141 users online out of 1226 reg'd users, I only have 256k upload so I like to keep the users below 200 or so.
What type of internet Connection do you have?

Sorry but a 1.5ghz 'server' doesnt really qualify as a 'slow hub pc' lol
Max users in mine is 150, any more than that and the lag is unbearable. Im on a 1.5/256 connection.
After reading all this suddendly my 450mhz hub pc doesnt seem so slow lol

Currently running two hubs, one with 100 users, the other 20
Also runnning a domain controller, and acting as router/firewall.
Eventually it runs out of memory, and I have to restart the larger hub.
Im surprised server03 let you install it on that!
Good work tho fella!
I was going to put it on a P200, but it wouldn't let me as it doesn't have the right kind of processor, so I had to settle for the 366.
It's a little slow - esp when I'm accessing it via Remote Desktop, but it always gets there in the end.
What's the max uptime for a PC before it's overheated or starts acting strange?

Up 512Kb
Don't know what you need to know more:)

I guess it depends on too many parameters, you can't give an average figure. Every machine is different, and sometimes low-end makes for a longer uptime than high-end ;)
Just keep banging more fans in it lol Or stick it in a freezer!
Nice to see people still finding uses for the older PC's!
well, i found some dude running his HUB on a Laptop

Damm.... I just got try to run a hub on my old 486dx..
29 Mhz... =)
Now that's sick :D
I don't know if Calculator will run on this PC ?(
/edit
maybe if you'll run DOS v6.22 and ProtaX.
I always thought that my PC isint good enough for hub:
Athlon XP 2200+
40GB x 2 [7200rpm] samsung
256 (266MHz) RAM
Win XP
....but these numbers out there.... they are incredible!
OMFD! I did it!
A hub on a 486
log in to destruction.myftp.org:412
lets see how much it can handle before it chrashes... ;p
486 - loving it! Finally a use for the shitty pc's we all have lying around lol.
Ok so whats next? first px hub on a X-box!!
Maybe a 80/86 with dos 3.0 :P
NO!, first the Nintendo the personal one...the Black&Green one LOL :D
Maybe we should try to run PX on refrigerator? Hehe... No, but seriouslly... isint there any minimal system requirements for PX?
I think the board should run a competition to find out the most outragous way of running a hub.
I was thinking that prehaps someone should try it on a PDA lol
This is outragous...!

id give it more credit than that - the leaning tower of pisa is more stable than windows lol
Great job with the 486 tho! Hmmm wonder where i can get a ZX spectum plus lol
this thread should be called "the most outrages way to run a PX hub" :D :D

100 hours!! But the main is starting to lag for me... and i got a 10 mbit connection to it.... :/
30 users online atm..... ;p
Thats just amazing win95, and a 486. Its probably a memory lag rather than a connection one. Oh no you MAY have to reboot lol
Dont you have a copy of windows 3.11? lol

nope... Cant find the disks.... And i think i only had 3.10 =)
My question not totally ontopic , but not misplaced. :)
Is there anyone who has an list of Ptokax and performance like :
users cpu mem
100
250
500
1000
2000
Dont Have any list like that.. ;p
But i can tell u this...
My old server... 400 Mhz 96 Mb ram
handled 200 users without any problem..
Think it used about 20-40 % of the cpu, and it runed more then just the hub....
My 450 with 256ram is running 130 users plus with an average of 50-80% Cpu!
My P3 866 with 512 handles around 400-500 users with about 10-30% CPU usage. But after a cople of weeks it uses about 75-99% CPU. After reboot it goes down to 10-30% CPU again...
Someone tell me if they know any different, but is it to do with the way windows handles memory? Ie pagesys file or virtual mem.
Or is it a cashe issue?
lol, the 486 is starting to get weird... ;p
i reconnected to get the uptime...

if you close the hubwindow in dc.. and then tries to enter..
you most likely wont get in....
It is about 90 users in it.. and they will stay there untill they log off, or the pc crashes totaly... ;p
if nowt else it shows people that you dont need all these top spec pc's to run a hub.
I get it all the time, 'you're running your hub on that?'.'i thought it would be a server or the such'.

One of the reasons with this test is to see how old win ver PX can run on...
And another reason is to see how long one of MS old and unstable Win can be up...

bit hard 2 do, there are 2 many factors which need 2 be reconed with.
for example, firewall and scripts.
but 2 give some examples.
325 users - ptokax 15.18 - amd 1800 - 1.5GB sdram - artificial insanety U.i - 1-3% cpu (5% peak)(ptokax only)
25-30 users - ptokax 0.3.3.0 lua 5.0.2 nov 6 - p3 733 - 512MB sdram - artificial insanety V.b - 0-1.3% cpu (full system).
in the past i asked for some specs 2 compair ai with other scripts.
the only compairsions i have from that is that ai could take 100 more users over the same connection/cpu then mean machine.
and ai used about 1/6 of the cpu of robocop (believe version 6).
it's not much but maby some more folks can post there specs (maby better 2 start a fresh topic for that).

hello everyone
my firends i have some question to make to you_!!
i ve learned many things in this nice tread =)
well a friend of mine told me that when you run a hub the important in the hole story is the Upload speed
but i have 384Download/128 Upload do you know how many users can i hold with this connection???
and i guess it s better don t share anything or open only 1 slot =/ if i don t want to use my upload speed
the max i ever keep my hub open it was 2days and something if i remeber good,if you leave it more days the memory useage is sooo big_!!
is there any tip to avoid meory useage _(exept of putting scripts out hahhaa)
and something else,i have noticed that in some hubs with slow connected servers if you try get a users list you are gettnig "conection timeout".
if i have 10MbitDownload/800kbs upload how many users can i keep_(this is my current hub server)
this is a thread for you - CLICK ME =) (http://board.univ-angers.fr/thread.php?threadid=3044&boardid=9&sid=f6588239fb9a4337ce339d3ae1b53071)

thou it's not the thread for this but disable this settings to avoid the MEM usage!
I had a thread for this but couldn't find it.
*btw disabling those settings will keep your PX MEM usage at 10mb alltimes.
Only those little features will make the PX MEM usage climb at 100mb and above. ?(
Quoteis there any tip to avoid meory useage _(exept of putting scripts out hahhaa)
if the small ammount of memory that the strongest of scripts require cause you a problem then BIN ur computer....... its really not worth Switcing on............

there are scripts doing this task, and those don't use a lot of mem.
for example a.i. can store between 12.000 and 14.000 users in 2MB.

You should try it with Basic Security Scripts.
My money would be on NXS-3. Not so heavy on the mem but still a great script
