Title: Integrated IP updater?
Post by: bolamix on 26 October, 2005, 15:52:38
Hiyall!
I haven't posted here in a looooooong time, I couldn't keep up with scripting in lua5 and I had other things to do with my time, I didn't even host my hub for a long while.
Now I'm giving the hub over to a friend for good as I'm moving, and I'm in the process of explaining everything ptokax- and hub-related, and I was wondering: how hard (and how useful) would it be to integrate an IP updater in the hubsoft? Like, a tab where we could enter the hubaddress, the dynamic dns service, and the username and password for it. That way there would be no need to have a separate updater, might make it simpler for some to use ;)

As I said, just a thought I had, maybe someone's already thought about it and it's been rejected as useless or too complicated... I searched the board but didn't find any topic for this. Post your ideas 8)

that would need 2 support multiple services, so a lot of work which is basicly for nothing.
nomather what ip the hub thinks it's on, the users can acces anyway aslong as the dyndns pinger is pointing the right way.

hope you still keep on trying lua5.

Thx for the quick reply plop, indeed I had a feeling it might be too much work for too little use ;) I'll zip the dns updater along with the hub's folder when I pass it along then.

I did try a few things with scripts in lua5, but alas... I guess I'm not cut out to be a programmer, I get lost and/or bored pretty easily working on code :baby:
Anyway I am preparing to move out of Switzerland, so have very little time to devote to hubowning or scripting, and I'm not sure I'll have DSL where I'm moving, so... might have to say goodbye to the DC world for a while
