Title: Reverse Connect?
Post by: BlazeXxX on 06 January, 2004, 00:48:15
Has anyone tried Reverse Connect ? Any comments?

I personally find it amazing, since it supports multiple source download.. It really speeds up the downloads :)

I really didn't get the point of it, thats why thought of asking..

well you have ppl who only stay online when they want something, for them this client is a good option.
so in that way you could see it as a leeching client.
but so does dcgui and in the future dc:pro and maby even dc++.
times change, in the past dc++ was a leeching client as you could connect 2 multiple hub's.

Yup Thx opti and plop.

I lost users cuz ppl started complaining the transfer is so damn slow and they are not bothered sharing files much since its not fast enough. After i told them all abt this client, they all sharing much more and opened more slots to ppl who want to download.

This is smilar to kazaa technology, but do we say its a leeaching client?

The aim of sharing is to Get how much files u can get and give how much u cud give.

I am sure DC++ or oDC++ or DCK++ will have this feature sooner or later coming with it, so i think this is a great start for the DC community.

Looks nice, but what about this:

If i use this Client, and i'm gonna download file X
I search for file X, and ten people are sharing file X
I'm lucky, and ten people have a free slot.
Then am I taking a slot of each of this people???

If so, then it's not good.
All free slots will be gone soon, I think

yes but they also be free faster.
but you don't need a multisource dc client, partial rar's can have the same effect.
if 10 ppl share them you can also get 10 slots.

Not seen it in that way
more sources = quicker completed
and with the rar files is also true.
thnx Plop

plop I totally agree with you... sharing partial rar's is much better & saves disc space :D

Cyberia , I agree that it will be using more slots. But isnt it the same way Kazaa does?

If someone downloads a file faster, and he share it back.. There will be an increase on the Source of files , which means that there will be more possibilities of downloading a file..

The slots will only be used when someone is downloading. As soon as he downloads, the no of slots available wud be increased, cuz u just got another source.

This will distribute files much faster than usual clients. So sharing wud also increase, cuz ppl wud be getting files faster and wud share more stuff.

I am seeing much improvement on share in my network, cuz ppl are happy that the files are downloaded fast. So they increased their slots to 10 and sharing the files they downloading. Thats what we want in Sharing I feel.

Thx Cyberia for agreeing the point ! As long as this client doesn't limit uploads or downloads, its a good client i wud say. :)

i suggested a vip 2 start using this client and he loves it.
he formatted his drives 2 day's ago so he had nothing 2 share.
his share sure grew really fast.
but you have 2 remember that multisource downloading can cause more broken files.
1 bad apple and you can get a real problem.
also opening 2 much slots can cause problems.
this won't make things go faster but slower.
i don't mean the speed per slot but the total speed.
limiting isn't bad @ all aslong as it's not abused (bcdc++ is protected against this).
if upload gets maxed out on dsl/cable the download gets pushed aside and slow down, and this not only slows down files but also other traffic.
limiting 5% of the upload speed is more then enough, and by doing that also helps spreading stuff faster.
the user gets the file faster so he can put it in his share faster.
now you can't call that bad.

Yup true.. It all depends on how ur users are ;)
