i have banned some idiots from my hub but i notice that they use proxies to enter and its usually from 172. range and its really annoying is there a script that can detect proxies and block them...... would be really neat if someone can make one

hey hyeclass,

i dont really know much about proxy servers, but when they connect in dc++, your hub gets the external address of the proxy server, and when a socks client sends a connect to me string, its the ip listed on the proxy server connection and not the connection to the hub, so their connecttome ip's are allways different to their logged ip. Now, the fact of the matter is if u fake an ip under a proxy server, they wont be able to download at all. and if they arnt downloading they are attack other hubs.

maybe someone whos know about socks servers can shead some light?

ya because its really getting annoying already im banning some people and there coming back and know one of them  has a static ip he still gets in with a proxy or something usually form the 172  range

the 172.16.0.0 - 172.31.255.255 are private ip's, the rest is public.
a proxy server doesn't nesecarely change the ip like a NAT, just i'm not sure if this is the same on a sock5 proxy.
