Anyone know how it's in Sweden? Is it illegal to just run a hub?

@(uk)jay:  Some people says there are going to be raids this month and some says it's just paranoia. I'm not really sure if this romur is true or false >_<

n1ck

i cant honestly see how it is illegal anywhere, you can transfer files through yahoo messenger, but i doubt yahoo is illegal!
As long as you dont keep files on the hub machine you arent doing anything wrong!

and aslong as the users in the hub share nothing 'commercial' to. The RIAA and their ilk are bound to threaten hub owners with legal action if you do not cease the hub. Hub owners are easy targets after all. Think about it, it would only take legal action to the hub owners of the top 10 hubs to take a massive amount of DC out. Easy to get the hub IP, and hub owners are ordinary people like you and i, they'll most likely cave in.

Anyway, what's with this protowall? can i use it with my existing firewall? i doubt it's more secure as a general firewall than Sygate Pro?

[PT]CableGuy

Can you imagine , shutting-down all IRC servers ? After all , you can download files between irc users. :]
About ProtoWall , i advise you to use it , like an "add-on" to you're firewall , since it updates regularly the IPs of "unwanted users".
Ver nice "proggy". ;)

n1ck

I use sygate too, however to make sure you have all the nasty ips blocked protowall is the proggy for you!

Hmm, the laws seems to be pretty the same as before. And if I understand it right, I think it's legal to run a hub (and not shareing anything on the server)

QuikThinker

lol can any1 translate that link in 2 English?  :D

Hi all,  thx for all ur feedback.......

If u cant tell i'm new to all this so trying to get as much info on things as i can :))))

bastya_elvtars

use the protowall on your server. no packets will be received from/sent to the owner of the blacklisted IP.
Everything could have been anything else and it would have just as much meaning.

Jitway

This is why you run private hubs. :D
It\'s not what you say but how you get your point across!

TecMaster

Your not safe even if you run a private hub...

n1ck

i still believe that you can run a public hub if you dont keep files on the hub pc. Of course if im wrong you guys will bail me out right? right? lol

Ofcorse ... or ... ;-)

Meka][Meka

ppl dont panic, its rumours, its not illegal in anyway to run a hub, unless ur encouraging fileshare, ie in motd, u must share 15gig of films < then u can be done, else if u have something like, admins are not resonsible for what you share, they are agreeing, u are not breaking the law in any way ;)

the law protects ppl that run servers, they protect search engines too, if u search google for warez u will find it, but they cant be posecuted because they are protected by law, they did not submiut it, jus like u did not put them files ther for ppl to download

Do you know what \'nemesis\' means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an \'orrible cunt... me.

(uk-kingdom)John

thats the reason when i run my hub i have no share limits on it, only mldc clients get kicked...

[NL]Pur

i don't see what share limit has to do with it, it's easy to share a legal 10gig

[UK]Madman

I'd say you would cause more trouble by kicking for bad files (like porn or temps, etc)

This is removing unwanted content in your hub and showing you are controlling what is being shared, so your blocking temps, but not files with possible copyright infringments.....

[NL]Pur

not really , and dctmp file is easy to identify,

but no man can identify if a file is legal or illigal. did you see it coming with a license?

yea it might be easy to share a legal 10gig like i share about 12gig of linux isos but thats not the way riaa etc see it, like the way they said udgnet was forcing users to share a certain amount of files to get into hubs..
