That comment is complete bull, if you consider that the tagless would only be registered users of which you trust, a genuine NMDC client is not a security risk.
no tag is a huge security risk. with no tag, things like hub destroyers or other types off hacking can get through + in the mainbot, you need to code exception rules, which can cause security wholes. And execpt for hacking/flooding, no tag clients are old and crappy. There are better clients that is also up to date in the development and how hard is it really to update to a new client??

RFJUU

I was wondering only one thing, is it possible to timeban (24h?) when x times kicked? Or does it just permban users?

BoJlk

kick x 3 = PermBan

there are some funny guys that flood/hack ur hub just for fun; I hadn't do nothing to no one, but I found my hub flooded/hacked many times..so I need something to defend my hub from this..so immature and so stupid behavior, of a child....(yes..a child..because a stupid 14th child which flood ur hub..), there come in Robocop, a security script...and allow noTag in a security will be a great security hole..no matter if registered or not..
(how u can assure that every registered users is who he is when it's connects to ur hub...and that's not the only reason..)
It's absolutely not true, i recently changed my hub port because of hackers and flooders. In the run up before i changed port i started using the deflood script and i take my hat off to it, it did a great job, my hub was temporaraly able to breath before i made the port change. The damn flooders where getting me 24/7 and my hub was unstable till i got hold of deflood, i then changed port and upgraded from Robo 6.0 to Robo 9.0, but my usercount has been down by about 1 third since then. I guess 1 third really isn't that bad for a port change and i am very greatful for whatever security features that Robo 9.0 offers. But i certainly didn't blame the Mac NMDC users for the flooding.

Well putting it into perspective, its trying to get users to upgrade, i am thankfull for suggestions by Optimus. Now i have some suggestions for the users.

Lastly to the others i want to say stop suggesting NMDC 2 its not available on mac.

[01:19:44] I found a new client with the following tag to allowe this client in the hub --> Usage: !addclient

What is this client? I'm wondering if its one of the mac clients suggested by Optimius.

What is the correct way to add it?

I tried:
!addclient sp on

which resulted in:
[17:04:45] *** There is no client found to add or client is allready added by another operator!

I opened the robo configurator and there was no sp to be seen, all i could do is add sp to the denied clients list and leave it unticked, will this be enough?

Thanx.

We aren't blameing the MAC users for flooding, if you read the post I made before this one, you no what I really mean.

Ans sure, changing ports and getting deflood secure you hub a bit, but  still there comes new hub destroyers/flooders and then it doesn't matter if you have changed port or have deflood(well, until plop finds a way to stop it and update the script).

And if you have followed this thread(check the page before this one), Optimus gave suggestions on clients that MAC users can use instead. Just send mass messages about it for a while.

Check this ^^ cause the new dcgui clients have a tag that looks like this so they need to update to a newer client also.

How is changing the hub port going to help you?

and as blackwings said ealier, if you allow tagless clients you have to make exceptions in the script, which causes security holes. It doesn't get clearer than that, so will everyone stop arguing about this please, it's doing my head in. people should update their client and then put a sock in it. NMDC1 is obsolete.

imby

I'd even go as far as to say NMDC2 is obsolete. i certainly don't want it in my hub. it's a pain in the arse.

It might not help me with flooders in the long term, but its certainly gotten rid of the 24/7 flooders i was getting. My old port was 411, i also got hit hard with mldc which can only connect to port 411.
I already stopped arguing, if you even consider that to be arguing. Perhaps you can take a look at my other post where i am asking for help...

imby

Ok, i think i'm VIP in your hub.

I'm running mine on port 411, and never had a problem with those clients. i don't allow tagless clients of course. Might that be the reason? I haven't dealt with mldc for at least a year or so, so can't remember if it has a tag. i know it has a description.

imby

I wasn't referring to you specifically, a lot of people have been arguing about the tagless client thing.

and sorry, can't help you with that. Am running 9b so don't know it. am waiting for the large updates before upgrading.

imby

I've also never had a problem with being flooded, sure they've tried it, but never been sucessful, have been running deflood and DCDM++ since when they started occuring. did DCDM++ not flush the flooders out, out of interest?

Yes MLDC has a description it looks like this --> MLDC
The only problem MLDC has is it wastes precious bandwidth because its always trying to connect.

It looks like the sp client might be shakespeer, but i'm not sure if i added it correctly, can someone please explain how to do it correctly.

Thanx.

just reporting an error

Syntax error: attempt to concat global `InbuildReason' (a nil value)
stack traceback:
   1:  function `DataArrival' at line 452 [file `Robocop\RoboCopv9.0e.lua']

i did slightly modify the Robocop Zclicker so it could be compatible with Hawk's Netserver as you can see how I modified it in the link provided, but i don't know if it has anything to do with that. If someone can help me that'll be great or if someone can tell me if this will affect the functionality of Robocop in anyway.

Several of my Ops run DCDM++ and it catches some flooders but not all the Deflood script catches the rest (ATM).

starts with imb :) i think it's yours because that particular hub was on 411, then it changed to 412, the owner seems to call himself Mr Crowley sometimes, and you've just made it apparent it's a Deathnap hub also :)

Not noticed anything significant, I think you live in the UK like me. our connections aren't very good as it is, but we're getting some upload upgrades soon:

Ok, thankfully I've been lucky so far. I guess i'll have to do something using a registered users only option. Because DC is pretty unsecure as it is. Could be a matter of time before flooders start winning.

I keep getting an error with the InbuildReason function also:

Syntax error: attempt to concat global `InbuildReason' (a nil value)
stack traceback:
   1:  function `DoInbuildKick' at line 520 [file `Robocop\RoboCopv9.0b.lua']
   2:  function `call' [C]
   3:  function `DataArrival' at line 488 [file `Robocop\RoboCopv9.0b.lua']

Although assumed it was a bad raw command on my end. or an IDC client doing it again.

Well you got the part right about the port change. My nick on DC is DarkEternity. I should also point out there are 5 DeathNap hubs.

The only other guy i know from UK in my hub is BurningPrometheus and he's Op, not that i quiz everyone for details before i make them vip or anything.

Looks nice, the 400k upload is not that special tho...
My isp currently gives me 4mb download and just under 400k upload.

DC hubs do after all use mainly upload bandwidth.
UK isp's suck!

If you are using PtokaX on port 411 then go to the users and chat tab and tick "CMDs" at the bottom, now you will see all commands that the hub is processing. When i was on 411 a lot of those commands belonged to MLDC getting rejected and disconnected from the hub.

well at least i know now that i'm not the only one getting that inbuild error so i can eliminate the assumption i made earlier from modifying robocops Zrightclicker script, so if more people are gettingt his error then hopefully there will be a fix in the near future :D

WILDCAT

imby

ah, it's significant for me because cable isn't available in my area. even though i live really close to the centre of my town. so it should be about 18 kb/s extra on my upstream. np, you should see me in your reg list, my account there is very old.

true, but i think users getting the nicklist, and searching, is the real bandwidth killer.

and yes i hope the source of that inbuiltreason error can be sorted. it's the only error i get at the moment.

Optimus

Ok Inbuild Kick fixed/noted thanks alot, further i got none to say hehe, you say it all. (That's all of you)

I agree on that last part you sayd that well could be my words.
In a next version Operators need to have a tag also, that is to simplyfy my code.
There for it may be a good idea to make a small imune list in the near future for execptions.

so in order to fix the inbuild error we have to re-download robocop again and do a full re-install or can we download it but only replace the Robocopv9.0e.lua file instead of re-installing entire Robocop? Thx for your help Optimus
